Dorset County 1st Team
1st Team Season Report 2024/25
Season Summary:
The 2024–2025 season was a challenging campaign for the Dorset County 1st Team, who competed in Division 1 South—a highly competitive and physically demanding league. Despite strong efforts, close encounters, and moments of real quality, the team were relegated to Division 2 South West after a tough season marked by narrow losses and disrupted availability.
While the outcome was disappointing, the team showed resilience, strong camaraderie, and plenty of promise for the future. Under the experienced captaincy of Adam Dochniak, Dorset continued to demonstrate the fighting spirit and teamwork that have long defined the county’s top side.
Women’s Squad:
Sophie Males – An essential part of the team, Sophie’s court awareness and consistent shot-making kept Dorset competitive throughout, especially in close mixed doubles rubbers.
Ali Donnelly – Offered experience and calmness in key matches, often holding the line in women's doubles and adapting well to different pairings.
Katherine Brereton – Showed smart tactical play and a strong work ethic, providing important depth to the squad in both home and away ties.
Rachael Collard – Fought hard in every match and remained composed under pressure; her grit and determination lifted team performances even in defeat.
Nicole Howcroft – Stepped up to 1st team duties and proved more than capable, demonstrating great footwork and sharp net play.
Safia Khimji – Brought pace and enthusiasm to the women’s line-up; her development this season bodes well for the future of the 1st team.
Men’s Squad:
Harry Willson – Known for his fast pace and explosive attacking play, Harry brought energy and intensity to single, men’s and mixed doubles. He remained a consistent performer throughout the season.
Tom Ashford – Technically sound and reliable, Tom played a crucial role in men's pairings, often grinding out tough matches with tactical discipline.
Matthew Howcroft – Another key contributor, Matt’s athleticism and adaptability allowed him to pair effectively across both men’s and mixed formats.
Relegation, while disappointing, offers an opportunity to reset, rebuild, and reassert Dorset’s presence in Division 2 South West. With a strong core of experienced players and a talented pool of players, the squad has everything it needs to bounce back stronger.
