Information
Entry is now open to the Dorset rounds of the National Badminton Schools Championships 2025-26. Schools who have KS3 or KS4 students can enter girls and boys teams to compete in their locality. Winners go through to the Dorset county round, battling to progress to the regional rounds in Oxford and then finals in Milton Keynes.
Entry is free but those who qualify for the regional round must pay £17 per qualifying team to Badminton England.
Timeline:
Local rounds Oct/Nov:
Bournemouth/Christchurch/Highcliffe (Avonbourne 25 Nov 3-5pm 2 halls) Poole and East Dorset (managed by PEDSSA) North Dorset (Gillingham, 18 Nov, 2.30pm) West Dorset: Lyme/Bridport/Beaminster (Woodroffe date tbc) Weymouth/Portland/Dorchester (All Saints date tbc) County round: LeAF (9 Feb tbc) Regional round: Oxford 2 March Finals: Milton Keynes 28/29 Mar
Format:
Each team consists of a squad of 4 or 5 players, with 4 playing each match against another school. A match has 2 games of singles, 3 of doubles, with games to 21, 15 or 11 points depending on time constraints. There are 4 draws - KS3 girls, KS3 boys, KS4 girls and KS4 boys, and schools can enter multiple teams in each. Players may be permanently moved up which can be useful for schools who struggle to turn out Y11s - they may bring Y9s into their KS4 teams. There will be 2 winning teams per draw from each area (West Dorset 1 each from their 2 sub-areas), who will then compete at the county round. One winning team from each draw then goes through to a regional round, and winners from that play at Badminton England in the national final.
